吾妻山の周辺に分布し、四国五葉松、那須五葉松と並んで日本三大五葉に数えられる「吾妻五葉松」。

厳しい風雪に耐えながら吾妻山に自生する姿は、ここでしか目にできない。

ここには、力強く生きる吾妻五葉松の姿に魅せられ、何代にもわたって吾妻山の風景を”盆栽”という造形で表現する盆栽作家がいる。

「僕が吾妻山の雨風雪となるんです」と語る盆栽作家は、盆栽を通して2本の手で“吾妻山の景色そのもの”を映し出す。

吾妻山のありのままの自然が盆栽作家たちに伝えた吾妻五葉松の盆栽づくり。

これまで幾度となくこの山域を歩いていたとしても、彼らが何代にもわたってつくってきた“BONSAI”の表現を通じて、これまで触れることのなかった「吾妻」の魅力に気づかされます。

“Azuma Goyomatsu” are distributed in the vicinity of Mount Azuma and are counted as one of the three major Goyomatsu (Japanese white pine) in Japan, along with Shikoku Goyomatsu and Nasu Goyomatsu.
The sight of these trees growing wild on Mount Azuma, enduring harsh wind and snow, can only be seen here. 
There is a bonsai artist here who has been fascinated by the powerful Azuma Goyomatsu and has been expressing the landscape of Mount Azuma in the medium of bonsai for generations. 
“I become the rain, wind, and snow of Mt. Azuma,” says the bonsai artist, who uses his two hands to reflect “the very landscape of Mt. Azuma” through his bonsai.
The natural beauty of Mt. Azuma has taught bonsai artists how to create Azuma Goyomatsu bonsai.
Even if you have hiked these mountains many times before, you will be reminded of a charm of Azuma that you have never experienced before through the expression of “BONSAI” that these artists have created over the generations.

吾妻五葉松とは About Azuma Goyomatsu

五葉松はマツ科の常緑針葉高木で、日本各地の高山に自生し、比較的成長が遅いこと、そして木質的に柔軟性があるため、古くから盆栽に用いられてきました。

松の中で最も一般的なクロマツやアカマツは葉が二本一組なのに対して、五葉松は五本一組の束となっていることが五葉という名前の由来です。

その中でも福島市西部、吾妻連峰の周辺に分布するものが「吾妻五葉松」。

四国五葉松、那須五葉松と並んで吾妻五葉松は「日本三代五葉松」に数えられ、盆栽の世界では、福島県の吾妻エリアは五葉松の産地として広く知られています。

Goyomatsu is an evergreen needle-leaved tall tree of the pine family. It is native to high mountains throughout Japan and has long been used for bonsai because of its relatively slow growth and the flexibility of its wood.
While the most common pines, black pines and red pines, have leaves in pairs, Goyomatsu pines have leaves in bundles of five, hence the name “goyo” (five-leaf).
Of these, the “Azuma Goyomatsu” is distributed in the western part of Fukushima City, around the Azuma mountain range.
Along with Shikoku Goyomatsu and Nasu Goyomatsu, Azuma Goyomatsu is counted as one of the three major Goyomatsu in Japan, and in the bonsai world, the Azuma area of Fukushima Prefecture is widely known as a Goyomatsu producing region.
